Stellar Day Magazine, June 2016

Who’s IN for an adventure?!

Our lives are made up of daily adventures, if we’d only take time to see it. Social media posts, every day comparison, discontentment and expectations can taint our visions for adventure in our lives. Well, we are here to remind you that adventure can be found in even the smallest season of life. Our hope is that the pages of June’s magazine would inspire your heart to see and find the adventure in your own life, to seek more adventure if you desire it, and to choose joy no matter what your circumstances are.

Special Thanks…

In Defense of the Princess | Book Review

Having publishers and authors reach out to me to have Stellar Day review their books is a new and unexpected endeavor for me. It’s an endeavor that I COMPLETELY WELCOME with total open arms. I love books, I love to read, and opening up the Stellar Day Book Club is probably one of the smartest things I’ve done! It’s given me direction, focus, intentionality and purpose with reading again. And anyone who is a busy lady or mama knows that finding time to read can be anything but easy! This has been a joy to start in this journey…

Intentional Playtime

Let’s be real…it’s HARD to be a stay at home mom!

One of the things that I am most grateful for is the fact that I am able to stay at home with my kids. By choice. I know a lot of mom’s choose not to or cannot and that is perfectly O.K.! We are all different. None of us are perfect; yet, we are the perfect parents for our kids. I am beyond amazed at moms who are able to work outside of the home and love on their kids– talk about balance and giving up control. Amazing. I…

Christ In Me

Sometimes there are just too many things.  Too, too many for me to even begin to feel like I can manage them all.  I love my life, I love the people and blessings I get to know and experience every day.  But sometimes it is just too much.

It’s funny because I pray for change and direction, and then when things start happening, I check out.  There are just too many things.  Too many moving parts, and too many decisions and things required of me, and I get overwhelmed and feel like I’m broken into a million pieces.  So, I…

Passion

In case you missed it, I love weddings.

Okay, sarcasm aside, I don’t just love them; it’s something I’m genuinely passionate about. I remember picking up my first wedding magazine (yes, I still own it). I. was. hooked. For a long time I knew I wanted to work in the wedding industry, I just didn’t know to what capacity. Cake baker, florist, dress consultant, for a short time I considered working with a planning business.

Then the light went on and I put two of my favorite things together and it clicked; I realized I wanted to write for a wedding…

34

I celebrate another year on this earth this I’m excited to turn another year older. Honestly I am. I have loved my 30’s so much. As I keep getting older, I realize the importance of the little things. As a kid, celebrating my birthday was a big ordeal. As it should be. Celebrating life is something worth celebrating in my opinion. We shouldn’t stop celebrating life just because we are getting older right?

I’ve decided to do something different for myself this up and coming year. At first when I was thinking about it, the concept sounded really selfish. Then…

Random Words of Kindness

I promise, if you’re ever having a bad day, this simple gesture will turn it around instantlycompliment a stranger.

Several years ago when I was working on overcoming certain aspects of my social anxiety, I started making a conscious effort to do things that make me uncomfortable. One of those things was paying compliments to strangers as they came to me. You’ve all been there, you’re walking through a store and spot a cute pair of shoes, or the most amazing hair you’ve ever seen, and make a mental note of it. I simply took this one step further…

Seasons

Seasons, Experiencing God's faithfulness

One of my dad’s favorite songs is inspired by a Bible verse in Ecclesiastes 3,  entitled “Turn Turn Turn” by the Byrds. It starts out by saying, “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven”. If you’ve heard the song, there’s a few “turn turn turns” in between those words, just as there are in life I’m learning.

Recently, I’ve been waking up with thoughts of home on the brain and when I say…

Stop. Breathe. Feel.

Mommy life is bananas, yo.  First, you go through pregnancy and lose half of your brain.  Your body shifts and changes to the point that you don’t really recognize or feel like you will ever be you again.  Then you have your little bundle of joy and depending on what your particular batch of hormones are, you lose the other 1/2 of your brain, fight off sleep exhaustion to look at this tiny miracle, figure out how on earth to keep them alive and keep your sanity, and still try to be a decent human for your husband to…

Self Care: The Importance of Putting YOU First

Before I became a mom, I did not know the meaning or importance behind self care. Sure, I took my multivitamin and made sure to brush my teeth daily.  I guess what I mean is– the true meaning of taking care of my own needs in order to flourish in all areas of my life. I learned this lesson the hard way! Like many first-time moms, I was in the trenches of the 4th trimester with a colicky newborn and the sleep deprivation was starting to break me.  All I could think about was making sure my baby was taken…

Stellar Day Magazine, March Issue 2016

March’s Issue is here and live!! This month’s theme is FOOD. I have dreamed about putting out an issue like this since we started this adventure, and I am SO excited that the day is here! I love food and how it brings people together. While I’m not the greatest cook or hostess, and my details rarely look close to perfection, I DO have a huge heart to be with people. And if this issue inspires you to try a new recipe, open your home to friends, or to try cooking more for your family, then that is more than…

Experiences Over Things

Let’s be honest, my kids have WAY too many toys! I try to be minimalistic when it comes to the kids’ “stuff.” Everything can pretty much fit on 1 large shelf but with our recent move and unloading boxes and boxes of toys, it hit me. Or, maybe it was the fact that we live in a country now where toys are so expensive that most kids only have a few. For their whole life, I want to raise grateful kids that are not consumed with materialism (which can be hard to do in our culture!) and who love to…

I dare you

Music has always had a part in my life.  I learn better by singing, I love to dance to music and in general, I just love to sing.  In fact, I’m always singing.  You might not hear me, but you better believe there is SOME song playing in my head at any given moment of the day.

And it could literally be ANYthing.  I mean, I make up songs if I don’t know one that fits the situation.  And I hear that people get frustrated because a song gets stuck in their head but, well, that’s just constant for me until…

I AM With You

There I was, standing in front of the yogurt at the grocery store, tears welling up in my eyes. Now, blueberry greek doesn’t usually bring me to tears, but at this time, I was on the verge of breaking from more than I felt I could handle. Allow me to back up a hair.

This was several months ago. We were desperate for a few necessities and dinner was a mystery, so off to the grocery store I went. With both kiddos in tow (3 and 1.5 years at the time), I came up with a genius plan to get…

Friends or “Friends”?

Friends or "Friends?"For the past couple weeks, I have severely limited my time on social media. As a millennial who loves having a smart phone, taking pictures and being online, this was a huge challenge. My husband and I have been attending a new church, which started a Daniel Fast on January 10th. A Daniel Fast, for those of you who aren’t familiar, is a time during which one cuts out pretty much everything but water, fruits, and veggies from their diet as a way to turn their…
