Wait

2015 was a year of waiting for me. I said a lot- A LOT- of prayers to the Lord that weren’t directly answered. I asked for things boldly. I prayed for patience. I asked for changes in my heart to be made, expectant to feel differently about situations in my life quickly.

Nothing happened quickly.

As I look back on 2015, I realize now that my “word” for the year was WAIT. I heard the Lord over and over again ask me to wait. He would ask me to trust Him, have faith in Him and rely on HIm. He…

Salt For Our Spirit

Salt for our Spirit

Take a deep inhalation through your nose pretty much anywhere you go during the holiday season and you’re immediately delighted with the scents of cinnamon, pumpkin spice lattes a la Starbucks, and everything nice.  Our pantries are stocked and ready to go with seasoning blends required to dress that turkey, spice up the hot apple cider, and get our holiday pies baking.  But how much salt do you have on hand and how much sodium is needed for your physical and most importantly, spiritual state?

Professional…

It’s All Messy

Friends, I’ve realized lately how messy life is.

Well, I’ve actually known how messy it is for a while, but I didn’t realize just how messy it could be. I feel like I’ve fallen into a pattern of nodding and saying that I’m good and that everything is okay, when in reality, I’m freaking out inside. I pretend that my life is all together and that it’s nicely packaged up with a bow. Newsflash: it’s not.

One of my favorite things about Christmas is sitting close to the tree in a dark room, only lit by the lights of the Christmas…

Asking for Help

Hi there! My name is Nicole Thompson and I’m a grateful believer who is passionate about pursing freedom in Jesus! I am also a wife of ten years, a stay-at-home mom to a sweet, sassy two year old, and a recovering codependent. That last one is a fairly new realization for me. Just add it to the list of things I’m working on, or rather, He is working on in me. I don’t know about you but that list seems to get a little long sometimes, which can feel overwhelming. Yet, other times I’m stunned at how my God…

Christmas Through Mary’s Eyes

My favorite version of the Christmas story is found in the Message Bible. The account of Mary goes like this:

“In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to the Galilean village of Nazareth to a virgin engaged to be married to a man descended from David. His name was Joseph, and the virgin’s name, Mary. Upon entering, Gabriel greeted her:

“Good morning! You’re beautiful with God’s beauty, beautiful inside and out! God be with you.”

She was thoroughly shaken, wondering what was behind a greeting like that. But the angel assured her,

“Mary, you have nothing to fear. God has…

The “Dark Side” or the “Light Side”

The Light of Dark Side

Most of us know those familiar words from Yoda in the worldwide phenomenon, Star Wars. Many of us will be going to see the latest movie this month, right?! With the events that are happening all around the world on what seams like a daily basis, these words can serve as a reminder for each of us today.

What Yoda was trying to explain to Luke Skywalker was warning him about “the dark side”. He warned that a simple path can and will lead to…

Simplifying Christmas

Simplifying Christmas

If you are like me, you struggle to find the balance between enjoying the holiday season and filling up the month of December with too many family “traditions” and social gatherings. From school concerts and performances, candle parties, cookie exchanges, Christmas caroling, Christmas light displays, play dates, park dates, cookie baking, Christmas card addressing, Zoo lights, Secret Santa, Santa pictures… Sounds exhausting just writing it. We book every event we hear of, and then wonder why our kids are acting up and not being appreciative of all…

Making Me New

Making Me New

I don’t know if God has entrusted you with a dream that sometimes terrifies you and makes you question whether or not it’s your idea or His. A dream that makes you doubt whether it has purpose or if anyone will understand. A calling so deeply woven into your fibers that it feels like the passion might kill you if you don’t take the leap. So doing it is scary. But not doing it is even more scary. And even just thinking about doing it terrifies you and…

Grieving Through A Miscarriage

**This is a REPOST of a blog post I did for Scottsdale Mom’s Blog a couple of years ago. Considering that I wrote it, I wanted to repost it here to share again. I’m super thankful to Scottsdale Mom’s Blog for giving me the space and platform to write so candidly about this when it was originally written.**

Grieving Through A Miscarriage

November is always an exciting month for me. Not only is it Thanksgiving, but my husband AND my oldest son both have birthdays this month. It’s the month…

Heart, I’m Listening

Forming words to my feelings today is really difficult.  Sometimes, God just overwhelms me with showing me Himself and what He is accomplishing.  While I’m a nutrition/fitness coach, honestly, I mostly just love loving on people.  And that’s a lot for me to say because I never EVER considered myself this person before getting into this coaching thing.  I would have described myself as a “shy” person, an “introvert” or someone who is a “good listener.”  But when it came to reaching out and actually ENJOYING that moment of the unknown when you go and talk to a stranger,…

Unplug

I recently read an article that indicated how many times a person checks social media. At first I thought the number was a lot and quite ridiculous. Then I started thinking about it and became totally convicted. I’m on social media a lot. There are times where I need to check messages, emails, and so on. I love the fact that I know and see what’s going on in loved ones lives that live far away from me. That aspect of social media is a wonderful thing in my opinion. Staying connected with friends and family around the world…

Conquering Winter Skin

I shouldn’t even call it winter skin, since I struggle with dry skin and eczema on my face all year, but it’s decidedly worse in winter. For the last few years I’ve used an exfoliating cleanser and an Aveda lotion on my face, which cleared up most of the eczema but I’d still get dry patchy areas occasionally and especially once the weather got coolish (because it’s Arizona, it’s not really cold right?).

In September I was lucky enough to attend Nine Retreat, where I got to room with the incomparable Jess, and had Stephanie Nieheisel as…

Are you REALLY the person you want to be?

I feel like I could leave it at the title and just let us all meditate on that for a while.  But I love to talk; so, let’s keep going.  In all seriousness, when you daydream, are you that person that you imagine?  Do you laugh as much?  Do you get together with friends as often?  Do you play with your kids as much as you envision?  Are you as exciting to your spouse as you imagine yourself to be?  Why do you think that is?

As women, we are expected to fill so many different roles in society.  We…
