Come Back to What You Know to be True

I’m a real hot mess right now and I mean it quite literally. I have hot flashes, I’m uncomfortably warm (but if I chug a glass of cold water then I’m freezing and can’t warm up), and my blood work is all over the place. I had a follow-up with my doctor today and even she was puzzled. I think she called it interesting. I’m going to stick with hot mess. I even cried during my appointment (see previous statement). I’ve struggled with my health for a while now and to put it bluntly, I’m just tired of it….

Self Care: The Importance of Putting YOU First

Before I became a mom, I did not know the meaning or importance behind self care. Sure, I took my multivitamin and made sure to brush my teeth daily.  I guess what I mean is– the true meaning of taking care of my own needs in order to flourish in all areas of my life. I learned this lesson the hard way! Like many first-time moms, I was in the trenches of the 4th trimester with a colicky newborn and the sleep deprivation was starting to break me.  All I could think about was making sure my baby was taken…

Just Do It

As I sit here, thinking about how to start this, a quote came to mind by one of my personal heroes (and who I dressed up as for Halloween when I was 5 – that right there should give you a little insight to the life that is me…). “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” – Amelia Earhart

So. I guess I should just do it. Here goes nothing.

If you read the magazine (which you should be doing – it’s super amazing!), you might have seen me around. My name is Jennifer, but…

One Simple Exercise for a Body You Love

It’s time for new years resolutions and goal setting for 2016. A time of year gym memberships soar and and diet plans flourish. This time leads into spring, and marketing to have your body beach ready by swimsuit season. It makes me sad, let me tell you the long-winded reason why.

A couple months ago, my heart was broken by something a friend said, and it has stuck with me, hard. She is stunning, inside and out. Really, like she’s a model and she is loving, intelligent and an artist with words. The kind of woman you would never think…

Find Your Why

Find Your Why

I had a friend recently come to me wanting to be in one of my motivation groups.  She thought she was mentally prepared to get back in shape but when it came down to it, she felt too tired to get over that hurdle.  To make those hard decisions for herself.  She asked me how I do it and as I thought about it, I figured it is definitely something we ALL struggle with from time to time.  It’s not unique to her, me, or even…

Give Thanks To Your Body

In this month of giving thanks, we often think of the people and things around us that we’ve been blessed with. We offer up our gratitude for our family and friends, our success, our abundance, and maybe even for our struggles and opportunities for growth and learning. However, many of us forget to give thanks for one of our greatest gifts, one that has been with us since we were formed: our bodies. It can be hard in our society to recognize with gratitude the many gifts this vessel provides–but it’s a challenge I’m asking you, Reader, to accept….

Epic Bone Broth FAIL

Epic Bone Broth Fail

I’m not on a health kick, I don’t care what you say. I have been on a JOURNEY to figure out what healthy living means for me. Some days it’s really easy, some days it’s really hard. Some days I have chronic pain, some daysI feel awesome. It’s all a balancing act and every day looks a little different.

IT’S CALLED LIFE.

So, when I decided to try to make my own bone broth, my husband wasn’t totally surprised. I had read that it was really good for inflammation…

It’s Not All About the Food

It's Not All About The Food

This time of year, we love taking that trip down memory lane.  What was your very most favorite tradition surrounding the holidays?  Did you play games?  Go look at lights?  Play foot-ball?  Watch the Macy’s Day Parade?  I had a fairly big family on each side growing up, and got to do a lot of fun things each year with my cousins; but my very favorite thing we did at Thanksgiving time was our “Rebandt Family Wall-Sit.”  And no, it was not officially titled, it was…

Juicing Inspiration for Beginners

How to Begin Juicing

Have you ever tried juicing? It always, ALWAYS intimidated me.

Then I went to the Nine Retreat, and one of the speakers there shared with us how to juice effectively, and in such a way that would make it doable for our lives.

What I heard: It’s NOT complicated. It IS affordable. And it IS doable.

I had the most amazing time at Nine. I haven’t fully blogged a recap about it yet, because I just can’t put the experience into written words quite yet. It was such…

Too Stuck To Workout.

I get it.  I’ve been there.  I still get to that point in my own journey.  You know, the place where you are just too much into what you are doing to want to take the time out of your busy schedule to get sweaty.  And then the cycle starts.  “Yesterday was such a nice break!  One more day isn’t going to make a difference.”  That’s how the argument starts for me, anyway.  And before I know it, weeks have passed, and I’m right back to where I initially started.  Breaking this cycle can be intimidating.  Because, we’ve done…

I know you know. So, how is your “do”?

Do Something, Sarah Costa

“There is nothing new under the sun.”  This verse always gets me.  I have these “light-bulb” moments and think that God has revealed this “Brand New Information!” (In the voice of Phoebe from “Friends,” yep. I’m a “Friend’s” fan.)  But this verse reminds me how false that thought is.  But, there are moments that things just “click” for us.  So, let this be my attempt to help you have things “click” because I know you can google “fitness,” “how to live the healthiest life,” or “how to…

Fitness and Friends.

“I’ll do it myself.”

This is one of those phrases that we all associate with independent toddlers who have yet to be taught how to share a task or responsibility.  It’s funny, though, how this mindset pervades all of society.  The majority end up thinking that being able to accomplish great things alone is somehow more valuable than being able to accomplish something great with a team of people.  And especially when it comes to nutrition & fitness, isn’t our own health ultimately up to ourselves?

In talking to people every day, I’ve heard so many give me the response: “I…

Sick of Making Excuses.

I am the queen of excuses. I will make them till I’m blue in the face to get out of things that I am not a fan of. Like appointments. For me? No thank you. If it’s not a life or death thing, forget it. I have realized since becoming a mom that I need to stop making excuses and start taking better care of myself. I absolutely love my new role as a mom. I finally feel like I am doing what I was put on earth to do. Best feeling ever. I get to stay home with…

My Whole30(ish) Journey: Grace, not perfection.

Grace, Not Perfection

I really debated not writing this post, mostly because I didn’t want to admit to myself that yet again, I couldn’t stick with a meal plan. But because I hate leaving this halfway finished, I figured this post could be helpful, not only for me but for others who are like me in their battle with food.

I made it 2.5 weeks into my Whole30 challenge, but this is where it went wrong. I had a frustrating day, and instead of making my banana “ice cream” to curb sweetness,…
